“Sometime around now is my five-year anniversary of covering crypto! I feel incredibly lucky to have found what is my favorite beat I've ever covered.”

Biography:

Laura Shin is a long-time journalist who is best known for covering the cryptocurrency and blockchain space. She got her start in journalism as a part-time proofreader for Newsweek before assuming the role of assistant producer. She later freelanced, writing articles for major publications including The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fortune and more.

In 2013, Shin joined Forbes where she covered cryptocurrency- and blockchain-related stories for the outlet, later becoming senior editor. In 2018, she was the first mainstream journalist to pivot toward covering the crypto space full time, launching and hosting the podcasts Unchained and Unconfirmed. Shin was named “Most Insightful Journalist” at the 2016 Blockchain Awards.

Shin’s 2020:

Through her highly popular podcasts, Shin provided an educational platform for some of the most significant crypto-related issues, ideas and trends to be discussed and analyzed, including decentralized finance, institutional adoption of crypto, Ethereum 2.0, central bank digital currencies and more. During the year, she participated in the Ethereal Virtual Summit and the LA Blockchain Summit, as well.

Shin’s podcasts and fireside chats hosted a range of both new and established professionals including some of the most talked-about players in the crypto space, such as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Yearn.finance founder Andre Cronje, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, U.S. Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks, SEC Commissioner and “Crypto Mom” Hester Pierce, and others.

Shin’s 2021:

As the crypto and blockchain space continues to attract further mainstream interest and investment in 2021, so too will grow the need for its followers to have access to quality media coverage and analysis. This puts Shin, who is already established and has relationships with many top industry participants, in an excellent position to further cement her status as one of crypto’s top media personalities.

In addition to continuing her podcasting and hosting talks, Shin plans to release a book in 2021 that will cover the history of cryptocurrency and its establishment as a recognized asset class. And with that very establishment playing out before us like never before, Cointelegraph expects that Shin’s book will receive wide recognition and reception.
