Biography:
Emin Gün Sirer is a computer scientist researching, developing and educating in the areas of network security, P2P systems, and digital currencies. He designed the first cryptocurrency based on a proof-of-work protocol, Karma System, back in 2003.
As the co-director of the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts at Cornell University, he has taught a range of technical courses in the field. Sirer is currently on leave from education, focusing on building Ava, a cryptocurrency that uses a novel consensus mechanism for high-transaction throughput comparable with Visa.

In May, Ava Labs launched a private testnet version of the Ava network, following a $6 million raise earlier in the year from major investors including MetaStable, Polychain, and Andresseen Horowitz. Throughout the year, Sirer continued to provide commentary on highly debated subjects such as proof-of-stake design methodologies and 51% attacks.

We expect to see the Ava network move beyond the initial testnet stage and into live production with the minting of the Ava currency. We also expect more strategic partnerships and projects announcing their intention to build on the nascent network
