The long-awaited Global Chia Hackathon, powered by Sirius Labs with support from Chia Network, will be open for official submission on Aug. 12. Participants can submit their projects through Devpost and Hackerlink (Hackerlink submission is limited to Asia).
The tracks or themes may include but are not limited to the following:
- Improved decentralized finance
- Improved nonfungible tokens
- Improved layer two
- GameFi
- Tools or wallets, etc.
Hackathon participants will have the opportunity to compete for a $100,000 grand prize, which is a big part of the overall $500,000 prize pool. In addition, winners also become eligible for participation in a $1 million seed fund investment by the sponsors. The first 100 teams who are chosen to participate may receive limited edition blockchain collectibles (depending on the availability).
To ensure code integrity and provide better Chialisp tools and training materials, Chia Network, together with Sirius Labs, will conduct an online Chialisp training camp as part of the hackathon. This training is designed to directly connect global developers and the world’s top Chia experts, including Bram Cohen, founder of Chia Network, Matthew Hauff, Adam Kelly, Matt Howard and Richard Kiss, for a best-in-class hackathon experience.
The Chialisp training camp will take place entirely online on Chialisp’s website from Aug. 9 to 11, 2021. Chia Network will release updated video tutorials, presentations and code samples on Aug. 9. We will then have a live Zoom session with Cohen on Aug. 9 to begin the event. On Aug. 10 and 11, we will have experienced Chialisp mentors available for a Q&A session.
The training session is accessible to all Chia enthusiasts and blockchain developers.

About Chia
Chia Network was founded by Bram Cohen, the creator of BitTorrent. It also includes executive leadership from Gene Hoffman, the former founder and CEO of eMusic and Vindicia, and also Misha Graboi as chief financial officer, who was formerly an internet equities analyst for Europe at Goldman Sachs and held various roles at Paamco Prisma, most recently as the CEO of Paamco Asia. Chia Network has recently added five key executive hires to support Chia’s growth and its broader adoption.
Chia, referred to as the green Bitcoin (BTC) alternative, is based on a proof-of-space-time consensus algorithm. Chialisp is a new programming language and “a fundamentally better way of building smart transactions than what’s been built in the past.” It is powerful, easy to audit, and secure.
Chia has landed a valuation of $500 million and plans to complete a fully compliant Securities and Exchange Commission or SEC-registered equity initial public offering on an accelerated schedule.
