Press Release

UC Berkeley’s Blockchain at Berkeley (B@B) is hosting a three-day Crypto-Economics Security Conference (CESC) from Monday, October 2nd to Wednesday, October 4th in the Pauley Ballroom located at the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union building on the UC Berkeley campus. The conference will run from 10am to 6pm on each of the three days that it takes place and will feature talks by both blockchain and crypto-economics industry experts.

It has been about two and a half years since a conference was held to explore the crypto-economics sector, and over that period of time, we have seen a huge evolution in blockchain technology and its lasting effect on the digital economy. The CESC will investigate many of the new developments that have occurred within the crypto-economics sector since the last conference was held. A number of distinguished researchers and developers in the blockchain space will be invited to speak and to share their thoughts about issues within crypto-economics and how these issues can possibly be resolved.

The CESC, hosted by B@B, recognizes that public, permissionless blockchains are dependent for their security and reliability of their economic incentives and mechanism design. Some private, permissioned ones may be as well. If blockchain technology continues to rapidly develop at its current rate, the number and severity of security breaches will in turn increase, putting the ecosystem in jeopardy. The conference will explore the economic security aspects of blockchains protocols, including game theory, incentive design, mechanism design and market design along with other topics related to crypto-economics security, and foster collaborations among researchers and practitioners working on these topics.

B@B is currently searching for additional speakers that can provide fresh and innovative perspectives on this topic. Not only do we want to bring greater awareness to cutting-edge blockchain research and innovations, but also want to provide the Bay Area with an exciting forum to discuss different topics relating to blockchain technology.

If you or somebody you know is interested in participating as a speaker, sponsor, volunteer, or committee member, please reach out at cesc2017@blockchain.berkeley.edu. For more information about the conference, our speakers, registration and committee, please visit our event website at cesc.io.
