Bitcoin-owning Europeans now have a new shopping option for fashion items, like a slew of ready-to-wear clothing and cosmetics. European retailer Showroomprive.com is now the largest European retailer to accept Bitcoin payments.
Showroomprive is teaming up with the European payment processor Paymium to deliver this service.
“This is a strong signal for every European retailer waiting on the sidelines: accept Bitcoin now, before your competitor does” Victor Mertz, marketing manager for Paymium, told Cointelegraph. “Europe is a mature retail market; accepting Bitcoin gives vendors an edge, both in customer acquisition and PR.”
For now, Showroomprive accepts Bitcoin on its French and Dutch websites. Belgium, Italy, Spain, Poland and United Kingdom will soon follow suit.
Mertz paints a rosy future for Bitcoin in Europe. Paymium has more up its sleeve as a merchant processor, he said.
“There is a growing interest for Bitcoin amongst European retailers, especially the largest ones. Paymium will soon announce new partnerships with European retailers and payment processors.”
The news adds further momentum to what is becoming a concerted effort to push Bitcoin in Europe. Expansion by private entities such as Coinify, in addition to the promotional actions of the Bitcoin Foundation, highlights the potential seen by the community for Bitcoin to become a significant force in the space.
