The US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs previously announced that it would be holding a hearing, and that date is now set for November 19, 2013.
The hearing, named “The Present and Future Impact of Virtual Currency,” will include BitPay CEO Anthony Gallippi and Ripple Labs CEO Chris Larsen.
Also included in the panel are Jennifer Shasky Calvery, from FinCEN; David Cotney, from the Massachusetts Division of Banks; Sarah Jane Huges, researcher at Indiana University; and Paul Smocer, president of BITS at Financial Services Roundtable.
The hearing will take place during an open meeting of the Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance and the Subcommittee on Economic Policy.
This hearing will come a day after the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hosts their own.
At that first hearing, representatives from the digital currencies community will include Patrick Murck, general counsel at the Bitcoin Foundation; Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle; and Jerry Brito, researcher at George Mason University.
Interest from Washington in Bitcoin has stepped up in recent months, particularly with the currency’s meteoric rise in value during November. It started the month trading at around $350 and has since approached the $800 mark.
The second hearing will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. local time in room 538 at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington.
