Ex-BTCC COO Samson Mow has announced the winner of his Segregated Witness (SegWit) code bounty.
The prize fund, announced last month, is intended for the individual or group able to produce what Mow called “safe” code for implementing SegWit via a user-activated soft fork (UASF).
The winner, shaolinfry, who in fact first proposed UASF in March, confirmed they had collected the 5.95 BTC on Twitter Sunday.
Shortly after, it appeared another user had sent shaolinfry one BTC as a vote of thanks for the work.
The culmination of the competition moves SegWit via UASF forward a considerable amount, from a conceptual idea to one ostensibly able to be implemented technically.
No sooner had the competition been announced, however, had shaolinfry already issued a different take on the UASF, this one more compatible SegWit as it currently stands.
This new version dubbed the ‘Super-UASF,’ would see exchanges reject non-SegWit miner blocks from Oct. 1, meaning miners would not receive fees from those blocks.
“Miners would have no choice but to support the chain that the economic majority wants, at least if they want to be able to continue to sell the Bitcoins that they win from mining,” one explainer adds.
It is unconfirmed whether Mow’s prizewinning code facilitates such a daring end to the Bitcoin scaling debate.
