First experience with cryptocurrencies
Matthew was originally introduced to Bitcoin about three years ago through one of his portfolio companies, a social gaming platform based in Singapore, which was looking to experiment with Bitcoin as a form of payment.
In addition, he co-founded SilkRoad Equity, a private investment firm about 10 years ago. This in turn opened his eyes to Bitcoin earlier than most – and he now focuses all of his time and energy on this space.
Role in the Bitcoin community
Matthew is very passionate about Bitcoin/ blockchain technologies and their potential to transform humanity well beyond money. He is the founder and CEO of Tally Capital, a venture capital firm focused on the digital currency ecosystem and has invested in over 20 companies including BitFury, BitGo, Blockstream, ChangeTip, Robocoin, and Xapo.
He is also a founding partner with Crypto Currency Partners, advisor to several Bitcoin accelerators (Bitropolis/LA, Decentral/Toronto and the Chicago Bitcoin Center), co-chairman of The North American Bitcoin Conference, executive committee member at the Chamber of Digital Commerce, chairman of BitcoinCares and founder of the Bitcoin Supper Club. In addition, Matthew was a producer of the first ever Bitcoin documentary, "The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin."
