London Fintech Week is an 8-day event taking place in London on 15th-22nd July 2016. It will showcase a number of startups and a multitude of speakers will be in attendance, allowing investors to connect with innovators.
Fintech Week is back to London
Fintech Week is a series of conferences, workshops, hackathons, meetups and parties, with each day focusing on a different topic. In total, there are 18 events, 60 sessions, 40 startup pitches taking place.
The main conference/exhibition takes place at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, but other events take place across the City of London, Canary Wharf and “Tech City.” The event also promises that there will be plenty of time for networking and meeting other innovators.
Key speakers
Some of the most notable speakers at the event include Rajesh Agrawal, London Deputy Mayor for Business, Eileen Burbidge, Partner at Passion Capital and British Treasury's Special Envoy for FinTech, and Kerry Agiasotis, President of Western Union Business Solutions. However, a full list of speakers from a number of worldwide banks, investment firms, and fintech companies can be found here.
Previous years
This year’s event promises to be just as worthwhile and enjoyable as last year and the year before, and hopefully even more.
“In 2014, we successfully organised London’s first Fintech Week. In 2015 we scaled up and attracted delegates from across the globe, got some of the brightest minds in financial services on our stage and ran a Blockchain Hackathon in Canary Wharf. In 2016 we’re going bigger.”
London financial hub
London is widely regarded to be the financial capital of the world, with the Global Financial Centres Index, which is compiled semiannually by the London-based British think-tank Z/Yen, ranking London the top-ranked centre every year since the index’s creation in 2007, except from March 2014 to September 2015.
As such, it is no surprise that London was the location chosen back in 2014 for the event. Fintech Worldwide, the organisers behind the event said of the British capital and their hopes for the event on the London Fintech Week website:
“London has a thriving Fintech community. Our aim once again is to unite the world of Fintech in the world’s financial capital. We help to enhance the dialog between established multi-nationals, innovation firms, disruptive start-ups, governments, media and investors. We are shining a spotlight on the leaders of the Fintech revolution. We love disruptive technology that creates positive change, so we’re celebrating it.”
