We reported earlier this week that Snoop Lion had set the internet a twitter via, um, Twitter by expressing interest in accepting Bitcoin payments for his new record.
But he wouldn’t be the first major artist to do so. Former Spice Girl Mel B beat him to the punch.
Mel B announced this week that she definitely will be accepting Bitcoin for sales of her new single, “For Once in My Life,” which will go on sale directly through her website on Christmas Day.
She will be working with UK-based Bitcoin mining service Cloud Hashing to process Bitcoin payments. Said Mel B herself: “I love how new technology makes our lives easier, and to me that’s exciting. Bitcoin unites my fans around the world using one currency.”
In the US, two other musicians are pushing Bitcoin a little bit closer toward the mainstream.
Childish Gambino, hip-hop stage name of actor Donald Glover, namechecked Bitcoin in an interview with Time magazine.
From the piece: “…I feel like if everything’s going to live online, why not Bitcoins? Being backed by gold seems very old and nostalgic to me. Being backed to a Bitcoin, which takes time to actually make and there’s this equation that has to be done, that feels [more real] to me and makes more sense.”
And down in Buenos Aires this week, New Jersey-born Tatiana Moroz debuted her song about Bitcoin at the Latin American Bitcoin Conference:
