You knew this was inevitable, right?
USA Today is reporting that two hotels in Las Vegas will begin to accept Bitcoins this week, but they won’t yet open up their casinos to the digital currency.
For now, guests at The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino will be able to pay with Bitcoins at the front desks, the D’s gift shop and two restaurants at the D: American Coney Island hot dog shop and Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Steakhouse.
BitPay will be handling the payment processing.
Bitcoin gamblers, hold tight. There are a number of regulations that need to be addressed before the hotels can allow Bitcoin buy-ins on the casino floor.
Both hotels are owned either in full or in part by brothers Derek and Greg Stevens. Derek told that the state’s gaming commission was on the fence about Bitcoin still.
“I don’t think the [State] Gaming Control Board or [the Nevada] Gaming Commission would be prepared to deal with Bitcoin at this point,” Derek Stevens told . “But I do know that the Gaming Commission and Gaming Control Board have Bitcoin on the radar, and are trying to evaluate what their future plans will be.”
Never fear, though, Bitcoin big-spenders. Vegas boasts a thriving Bitcoin community, it hosts the annual Inside Bitcoins conference, and it has a whole ecosystem of businesses that cater to digital currency users.
