Open source Bitcoin wallet provider Armory has joined businesses officially supporting Bitcoin Core over Bitcoin Unlimited.

In a post on Sunday, lead developer Andrew Chow said that while Armory “will be compatible” with BU in the event it goes mainstream, Armory “did not support any controversial hard forks such as Bitcoin Unlimited.”

Chow added:

“However, that being said, the Armory wallet software does not perform any consensus checks as it relies on its connection to a local Bitcoin node. This node is typically Bitcoin Core, but anything based upon that will work as well; this includes Bitcoin Unlimited. Thus should a hard fork occur, so long as no changes are made to the transaction or block format, Armory will be compatible with the hard fork and will allow users to continue to transact on the forked network.”

Armory is now one of 112 recognized Bitcoin entities to have formally begun preparations for Segregated Witness activation, according to a new list created by the Core team.

According to the color-coded list, 57 of the entrants are already in a “ready” state for SegWit, with the others either “planning” or preparing plans in a “work in progress” format.

Among the “ready” camp is exchange Bitfinex, which became the first resource to offer Bitcoin Unlimited futures trading under the ticker BCU. Fellow exchange HitBTC has since done the same.
